On May 15, 2025, Medica will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special event entitled 40 Years of Medica: Innovating Health for Tomorrow.
“The event will not only be an opportunity to celebrate the past, but also to look to the future,” says Marco Fecondini, Medica's CEO, "which is why we decided to invite our international partners from both the scientific and industrial worlds.
Founded in 1985, Medica has developed innovative technologies in various fields, from automation to the pproduction of disposable devices and electromedical machines. “If we have to mention a key technology of the last 40 years, surely capillary membrane extrusion is the most significant one,” Fecondini explains. "Introduced in the 1990s, it has had a transversal development that has allowed the company to expand even in areas far from blood purification.
Today Medica competes in markets dominated by large companies, such as blood purification and water filtration. “To be successful, we need to focus on innovation and the development of high value-added market niches,” Fecondini points out.The company has established strong collaborations with universities and research centers, becoming a founding partner of MISTER Smart Innovation, a company co-participated by the CNR of Bologna and several industrial entities, with the goal of developing cutting-edge technologies.
Many of Medica's successes are the result of a pioneering approach to innovation. “Often, in our history, we have developed technologies without a defined budget or a clear vision of short-term economic return, but driven by ethical values and a passion for technology,” Fecondini recounts. "That's how, for example, Carpe Diem, the first neonatal blood purification machine was born.
Internationally renowned experts will speak during the event to offer perspectives on health systems transformations, innovations in critical care, and the future of rare diseases and transplantation. The event is open by invitation only.
